World Of Warcraft Level Guide(1)
In an RPG, a character's level represents their level of advancement and power. The higher level the character, the stronger they typically are. World of Warcraft, like most other RPGs, use a level-based character advancement scheme. Presently, the maximum level you can reach in WoW is 60, but by the end of 2006, that level cap will increase to 70 with the release of World of Warcraft's first expansion, The Burning Crusade. The higher level a character is, the more experience is required to achieve the next level. In real life terms, this simply means sinking more and more time into grinding up experience and working on quests.

At higher levels, players begin to experience the truly interested content of the game. By forming large, 40-man raids, players can assault massive dungeons filled with the minions of powerful overlords, ambitious elemental gods, or the spawn and kin of dragons. From combating the evil black dragon Onyxia, engaging the fiery servants of Ragnaros and taking on the draconic denizens Blackwing Lair, high-level raiders must work together and form proper strategies to emerge victorious. These top end guilds only accept level 60s, skilled in their class and wearing most, if not all, of their class-specific set pieces. They also require players to be flagged to enter these major epic instances, completing their Onyxia quests, Attunement to the Core and Blackwing Lair, and even have their faction high enough with Argent Dawn to get into Naxxramas. The demands of high-level raiding are intense, and casual players have a hard time meeting such strenuous demands.

With the Burning Crusade mere months away, players are already girding with the expected grind of reaching the newly raised level cap. Blizzard has announced that the expansion will allow players to achieve level 70, a power level that was previously only available to high level monsters such as those in epic raid dungeons. Rumors are already abound that the grind from level 60 to 70 will be as long and hard as going from level 1 to level 60! With the new continent of Outland to explore though, the pain of leveling again should be eased by the excitement of exploring a brand new environment, with all new quests, creatures, spells and magical items.

For players still waiting struggling to get to level 60, the new cap of level 70 must be a daunting and nearly impossible goal to obtain. Reaching level 60 is an achievement worth celebrating. It opens doors to raiding dungeons, quests and items that were previously unavailable. Yet the time committed to reaching that level was high enough as it is, much less trying to get to level 70! For the more casual gamer, this could be a task almost impossible to achieve. Fortunately, they are not alone!

Leveling up in World of Warcraft can be done as a form of attrition or expedience. Since a player never looses any experience upon character death, a player can only ever advance, unlike other games like Everquest, where it is possible to actually lose levels from dying! While some players may feel that this eventual advancement will lead them to level 60 sooner or later, such an approach can take a long, long time. Most players prefer to advance quickly, rising in the ranks of their peers until they can take on the hardest content, see the most epic dungeons and challenge dragons and gods in their own domains.

Gaining levels efficiently is a strategy. Understanding which quests to select, which zones and dungeons to visit and knowing the most efficient forms of travel, utilizing short-cuts, safe passages or even buying teleports, can ease the length of time it takes to advance from level to level. Unfortunately for most players, by the time they learn the tricks, it's too late for the trick to help them, unless they are leveling an alternate character. Other strategies involve how to most efficiently kill certain creatures, or knowing secluded places to hunt where you do not have to fight other players for spawns. Leveling a character is a skill, like any other, and those who have the most practice will be the most efficient at it.

Leveling fast in World of Warcraft is a skill like any other. It takes time to learn all the tricks, short-cuts and nuances to be completely efficient. Most first-time players savour leveling up their initial character, making the effort to learn the game, the land and the character's skills. Many players feel the urge to level a second, or even third character, to experience the game from a new perspective. By that time though, leveling quickly becomes a more important goal, as the enjoyment of playing the new class comes from being able to experience the high-end content, getting epics and fighting in battlegrounds against equal level foes.

One of the secrets of leveling fast in WoW is knowing great places to hunt. Often there are secluded areas with fast-spawning creatures that are relatively safe and easy to kill. There are dozens of great places for each level range, but many are heavily contested, with players fighting each other for creature spawns. However, the best players know of other secret locations, or lull times, when they can take full advantage of an area all to themselves. In addition to this, new quest givers in certain zones will often send players to the same place to kill a certain number of creatures, or collect certain items from their bodies. Newer players lose a lot of time, completing one quest and returning to quest NPCs, only to find they have to go all the way back to complete a different quest. Those with proper knowledge know the most efficient way to complete multiple quests at the same time, thus doubling or tripling the amount of quest reward XP with one trip!
