Vector-Hostile is a Matrix Online server. Players have to connect to one of the servers to be able to play the game. Once players have created their account they can log on to one of the servers and create a character, or if they already have a character they can simply log in and begin playing.

In all MMORPGs, players create a character which they use to explore the world. In Matrix Online the player controls a 'redpill'; a human that has just been freed from the matrix. In the beginning the Zionites, the collective name of the freed humans, will help the new player along by giving them training missions. Once a player becomes a fully fledged operative he/she is free to go his/her own way. This includes choosing a path that may be openly hostile towards the Zionites.

That is one of the greatest strengths of the Matrix Online; players are not forced to be on friendly terms with one faction while being forced to be enemies with another. Instead they are allowed to choose for themselves who they want to side with. This really gives players the feeling that they are in a virtual, which is after all what the matrix is, and that they are free to do as they want.

There are of course drawbacks to choosing one faction over another, as factions who have been repeatedly attacked by a player are unlikely to show that player any mercy. Other players also pose a potential threat, and you can't actually trust anyone 100%, but that's what makes it fun right? So unless you want to get your head blown off by the guy you thought was your best friend, it pays to stay prepared.
