Some recipes may produce multiple end products. Washes, Resins, and Oils for instance can be produced in 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s depending on the quality or level of item you produce. This makes things much more cost effective to produce level 4 items. Your cost becomes 25% of what a crude or level 1 item would cost to produce. Not a bad savings and it certainly adds up over time. Another example would be arrows. You can receive between 5 and 20 arrows depending upon the final craft you make.

You may also get different types of materials. For example, when crafting Reagents you also get Solidified Loam. The Reagent can be used in making different types of dyes and inks while the Loam is used in making different types of vials and bottles. If you are going a scholar route you will be making a lot of these during later levels.
