vanguard gold:Perpetual will publish Gods and Heroes themselves

awesomesauce, gods and heroes, perpetual entertainment, platform publishing, soe

An email just arrived containing some interesting news concerning Gods and Heroes.

There used to be an email here that had words to the effect that Perpetual is distancing themselves from SOE, or SOE is distancing themselves from Perpetual depending on how you interpreted it.

I'm sure you've read the official statement which reached an amazing 11,000 RPM when it was analyzed. I don't buy the story that this is being done for the reasons given:

The altered relationship clarifies for the community and the press that SOE has no active role in the development of Gods and Heroes, SOE explained, and that all credit should go to Perpetual Entertainment. Wolfcale also mentioned that she believes it is important, given this is Perpetual's rookie project, that they receive maximum exposure.

One could say that this is really being done so that the couple of hundred thousand MMO players who have sworn off ever buying an SOE product again may actually buy Gods and Heroes. It could also be said that SOE really doesn't have any confidence in Gods and Heroes whatsoever and feel that not only should all credit be bestowed to Perpetual, but all blame as well if the game doesn't do well. Considering that SOE paid money for a steaming pile of Vanguard, you would think that Gods and Heroes must be really bad to illicit that kind of a response from the people who keep MMOs on life support.

I've seen Gods and Heroes and played it. The game, even at an unfinished stage, is already more fun and playable than Vanguard. This rules out the second theory.

I'm thinking that what really happened is that words of a not so nice nature were exchanged and unfortunately the two companies are contractually tied together on the marketing and distribution. I'm just wondering if SOE truly feels that it's so important that Perpetual make a name for themselves that they release Perpetual from the obligation.

Creepy trivia - Electric Eye by Judas Priest was playing on my iTunes and just as I typed the word "perpetual", Rob Halford screamed it into my ears.
