Gold has its advantages - purchasing extra consumables like potions, armor kits and weapon sharpening tools can only add to the effectiveness of your adventurer. Buying an epic mount not only looks supremely cool, but adds so much convenience to travel time. Training up profession skills like Enchanting, Tailoring and Engineering can cost a bundle in rare trade goods and items found by other players. Nothing comes cheap in the land of Azeroth! Gold itself is not an easy commodity to come by. Most creatures drop a paltry hand-full of silver pieces. Only the biggest, nastiest elite bosses from epic dungeons will drop piles of gold coins to loot. On occasion, you may score a lucky magical item, or some rare component to sell on the auction house, but more often than not, it will take hours upon hours of steady grinding to make enough gold to afford the simplest of equipment upgrades.
